    Part 7: Utilities (2 of 2)

Subscription welcome & confirmation messages

To welcome new list members, Lyris ListManager sends a "hello" document to new subscribers after they've joined your list.

The "hello" document explains what your list is about and how to unsubscribe. ListManager sends out a generic "hello" document, but it's up to you to create a "hello" document that's right for your list.

How to create a "hello" message

    1. Click on the Utilities tab.
    2. Click on List Documents.
    3. Click on Create New. The following window will open:

    4. Enter a Name for your document, without using any spaces.
    5. Enter the Subject of your document.
    6. Enter the body of the document (view our online templates for ideas).
    7. Save your document.
    8. Click on the Utilities tab.
    9. Click on List Settings.
    10. Click on Basic Information.
    11. Click on the Documents tab.
    12. Select the document you just created next to Hello.

    13. Click on Save at the bottom of the page.

Other important documents

You can create and customize other ListManager documents, too. There are many document types, but the two you'll find most useful are the "confirm" and "goodbye" documents.

    "Confirm" document

All Sparklist lists are configured to send a default confirmation message, which asks new subscribers to confirm their membership by email.

Please remember that all Sparklist lists must confirm their members.

This "double opt-in" process is a very important component of successful email list management, and we're confident that it will increase the success and value of your list. Double confirmation ensures that no one is signed up for your list accidentally or maliciously, and protects your email activity from being considered spam.

    "Goodbye" document

You can configure Lyris ListManager to send a message to all unsubscribing members. A default message is available, or you can create your own "goodbye" document customized for your list, the same way a "hello" document is created (see above).
